Wenwu Temple is near the shore of
Sun Moon Lake. When the Japanese built a hydro-dam in 1939, two temples along the lake shore, Longfend Temple and Yihua Hall had to be removed. With the compensation temple managers decided to build one temple, the Wenwu Temple. Originally it could only be accessed from water and climbing 365 steps, one for each day of the year. It is still there and a date is marked on each step.
