May 18th Memorial Park - Gwangju

Located in the May 18th Memorial Park. this sculputure park is dedicated to the memory of the May 18th Democratic Uprising. The May 18th, 1980 democratic uprising in Gwangju was in response to a coup occurring the day before which installed Chun Doo-hwan as a military dictator. The voilent repression cost between 600 - 2300 lives. The sculpture park and memorial place has an area of 3,310 square metres.
