The Cardo, near the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, was a twin north-south throughfare which operated during late Roman and Byzantine Period (324-628 CE). Columns were added in the Byzantine period. Mosaics have been installed along the road side to try to convey an impression of what life was like, based on archeological evidence, in that period of history.
