Plaza Mayor - Madrid
The Plaza Major (Town Square) in Madrid measures 129 metres by 94 metres. The surrounding building with its 237 balconies is residential. It was first build from 1580-1619, during the reign of Philip III. Originally called Plaza del Arrabal, it was the site of the most popular market until the end of the 15th century. In the center of the square is a bronze statue of Philip III created by Jean Boulogne and Pietro Tacca. Though created in 1616 it was not placed into the square until 1848.
