Geunjeongjeon - Seoul
Originally built in 1392, Geunjeongjeon is the main hall of Gyeongbokgung Palace. Stone platforms in front are decorated with various animals, including the twelve Chinese zodiac signs. It was used, by Kings, to conduct state affairs, hold national ceremonies and to receive foreign envoys. During early years of the Joseon dynasty (1392 - 1897) new Kings ascended the throne here. Burned down during the Japanese invasion of 1592 it was rebuilt in 1867. Restoraton of Gyeongbokgung Palace is an ongoing project which is expected to continue until 2045.
