Venetian builddings on Trg Brace Radic in Split, Croatia. Split the largest city on the Croatia coast was founded in the 2nd - 3rd century BC by the Greeks. Venice took over the city in 1420 and eventually developed it into a signficant port city. Venetian rule continued until 1797 when it was ceded to the Habsburg monarchy.
