Asen Dynasty - Veiko Tarnovo,

Looking down on the Yantara River, the Monument to the Asen Dynasty, in Veiko Tarnovo, consists of a huge sword surrounded by four horsemen. Built in 1985 to celebrate 800 years since the brothers Ivan and Petar Asen overthrew 200 years of Byzantine Rule and declared Veiko Tarnovo as their capital. The huge central sword represents the power of medieval Bulgaria. The horsemen are Petar, Ivan, their brother Kaloyan and their successor, Ivan Asen II.
