Vistula River - Warsaw
I first become aware of the Vistula River when I attempted to read, and failed to complete, Gunther Grass's Dog Years. Behind the Iron Curtain, in Poland, it was no more real to me than the Anduin River in the Lord of the Rings. But the Vistula is real. Located entirely in Poland it begins its 1047 kilometer journey near the border of Czechia and Slovakia. Travelling north, then east, north, and west, then north it drains into the sea near Gdansk, approximately 530 kilometers due north of its source.
