The Plitvice Lakes National Park is located 110 kilometres south south-west of Zagreb, Croatia. It is a landscape of tufa lakes connected by waterfalls. Tufa is a form of limestone created when carbonate minerals precipitate in unheated water. One of the oldest and largest parks in Croatia it became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979.
